GRATEFUL FOR HELP IN FINDING OUR SENIOR LIVING OPTION

Barbara,

I can’t tell you how grateful my family is for your help finding this option for our dad. We have been looking for MONTHS, and have shed many tears thinking we would never find a place we were comfortable with for the price we could afford. You did it in one day. We love the house, and Claudette. Thank you SO very much for all you did for us.

GRATITUDE FOR HELP WITH ASSISTED LIVING

Thanks so much for your phone call this morning. I sincerely appreciated your obvious concern for our situation regarding assisted living/long term care for our mother. Not only is the education/guidance that you provided an eye-opener, but the fact that you were quite willing to spend as much time with me as you did was (simply put) “a shot in the arm” for me! Thank you for being there for all of us!!!

VA BENEFITS AND IN-HOME CARE FOR MY MOTHER

About 3 weeks ago I spoke with you regarding VA benefits and in-home care for my mother. Unfortunately, I wanted to let you know that my mother passed away yesterday and I still wanted to thank you for your kindness and the beneficial information that I received from all of you. My mother-in-law will soon need in-home care and I now know where to start with helping her. Thank you again.

THIS WAS THE MOST CHALLENGING DAY OF MY LIFE

This was the most challenging day of my life. Thanks to you, Mom is off Hospice, sister signed papers this afternoon. We bought her a hospital bed and hospice to remove all of their equipment Wednesday this week …my sister faught the whole way. Hospice came to Mom's Assisted Living room with paperwork still trying to talk my Mom and I to keep her on hospice. The entire experience was awful.

My Mom was never rightfully diagnosed… All a scam. I looked the hospice social worker in the eyes and she could tell I caught on to everything without me saying a word! I wish I could take you to lunch to say thank you. You are so sweet to help me. You are an Angel! I mean that!

I MET SOME OF THE KINDEST PEOPLE WHO HELPED ME ALONG THE WAY

Sorry I’m so late with this Mom update. I started this a month ago but there was another hiccup with the insurance company and I was afraid to send it out for fear of jinxing myself. The last week of June my attorney and I were finally able to come to an agreement with my mother’s insurance company. I had to sign a non-disclosure agreement about the details but I can tell you that according to the settlement, mom will be able to remain at (facility name withheld) or any other care facility that may be needed in the future, for as long as she lives.

It was an agonizing experience all the way around but I met some of the kindest people who helped me along the way. Several of these people were complete strangers to me and heard about my story from a friend of friend/co-worker/networking group and just wanted to help. I want to thank each of you for all of your time and the compassion and concern you showed to me and for my mother. I want to thank you for your ideas, contacts, well wishes and general guidance. Without you all I could not have found the strength to do all of this.

I was so beaten down by the system and by the number of people that just didn’t seem to care about my mother or her well being that I was at my wits end. Then I met Barbara Lambert and Theresa Hood. These people genuinely cared about what happened to my mother and they had no reason or vested interest or anything to gain by helping me. They restored a little faith in the human race in the midst of all the dealings with the insurance industry and its endless supply employees that seemed to have forgotten that at the center of all the madness was a human being, my mother, who suffers from dementia and needs more care than I could provide her at home.

Special thanks to Rick and Theresa for several late night calls but mostly for being such nice people! Good people. I cannot thank you enough!

Our dad, is settling into his new life at Brookdale. It is the perfect choice for him. He is still finding his way around but has a good spirit and we think he will do well there. We wanted to thank you for all of your help to our family. We truly could not have done it without your counsel, professionalism, responsiveness and caring. You are well suited to your job and we are so grateful to have interacted with you.

Thank you for what you do every day and for better informing us on our journey.

GOOD RECOMMENDATIONS

I was very satisfied with both the facilities recommended by Theresa. I chose (facility name withheld) based on the pleasant atmosphere there when I visited and most of all – on their favorable patient/nursing staff ratio of 5:1. Based on this, I hope my ailing husband will be in caring hands – receiving better care than I would be able to provide on my own, and hopefully I will be able to restore my health and regain my resilience.

Many thanks to you Theresa and staff for the good service you provide to the caregiver community. Thank you.

FIVE STARS FOR LYNN

Hello Lynn,
First let me say once again “thank you” for all of your work in helping us. My MIL has chosen (facility name withheld). They gave her a great room as she was a disaster evacuee. She got the last room available and we are so grateful to you for referring us.

They are getting her place all ready. When we toured the place a second time they let my MIL choose items from their “distaster donation pile” and that told us so much about the type of compassionate people there. It was the icing on the cake!

Lynn, I give you five stars for being so kind and keeping us in the loop for housing even when it seemed so far out of reach for us. May God bless you for all the work that you do and will continue to do for the seniors of San Antonio.

BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF SENIOR LIVING OPTIONS

I so very appreciate your presence in all of this. I could never have done this by myself. It is so comforting to have someone who is so knowledgeable on the needs and options in senior living. It is huge to have this connection with you and I feel like I have such a better understanding of the options. I feel like I have a friend there. I am so thankful for your helping both me and my mom. I could have not made the correct decisions for my mom without your guidance.

Thank you for what you do every day and for better informing us on our journey.

Getting Enough Fluids

It’s important for your body to have plenty of fluids each day. Water helps you digest your food, absorb nutrients, and then get rid of the unused waste. With age, some people may lose their sense of thirst. To further complicate matters, some medicines might make it even more important to have plenty of fluids.
